I attended the 2011 Get RADICAL Women’s Conference this year and I learned so much.

When I got home to NH, I was filled with so much empowerment that I was a bit overwhelmed.  I knew there was something out there that would give me purpose and satisfy my thirst for a rewarding life.  About a couple weeks after the conference, I was on Facebook and I noticed that the ASPCA was launching it’s first year of their endurance and half-marathon training program called “Team ASPCA”.  My gut told me that I had to do it.  So I signed up.

I’ve never ran over 1.5 miles in my life. By being a part of Team ASPCA, I would be training for a half-marathon while raising funds for the ASPCA.  The ASPCA is a charity I hold close to my heart so it felt right to do this.  Never in my life did I think I would be capable of running a half marathon.  But I trucked through each week of my 16-week training program and before I knew it, I was running 11 miles in my last few weeks!!  I definitely cried when I finished that because I totally underestimated my capabilities.

If I can run 11 miles, I can run a half-marathon and do anything else I put my mind to.  Well… yesterday, I finally ran my race and I rocked it!  I finished 4 minutes sooner than my goal and the pride and emotions afterward were so rewarding.  I want to thank you and all the speakers at the conference for all the motivation.  Seriously, if I didn’t go to the conference, I wouldn’t have had the motivation to sign up.  Thank you so much!
